On Friday evening, October 31,  Rabbi Steven Mason, will be the first speaker  in our series of testimonial speakers honoring Rabbi Dreyfus’ installation as the President of the Central Conference of American Rabbis.   Rabbi Steven S. Mason has been the Senior Rabbi at North Shore Congregation Israel since July, 1997.   He is a Senior Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute , Jerusalem, Israel.  Rabbi Mason has served as Treasurer, Vice President and is currently President of the Chicago Board of Rabbis.

Rabbi Mason will speak as part of our Regular Erev Shabbat Service, beginning at 8:00 pm.

LUNCH & LEARN will be held on  Thursday, October 30 at 12:15 p.m.  in the Garfien Wing.  Bring a brown bag lunch (we will provide beverage and dessert) and the current issue of Reform Judaism magazine to discuss.

 Sisterhood paid-up membership event -    ”Ye Olde Tea Party” on  Sunday, October 26th at 2 p.m. at the temple.  Gigi Gumerson, who used to own an antique shop in Flossmoor, will bring her expertise in evaluating antiques to the event.  She will evaluate one item per paid-up sisterhood member.  A variety of teas will be served with accompaniments. 

Members may bring their own tea cups if they wish.  RSVP to Sharon Kroopkin at 799-5018.  Sisterhood dues may be paid that day.

This evening’s erev Shabbat service will be conducted by Rabbi Dreyfus beginning at 8:00 pm.  Nancy Friedman will be the Chazanit.  Rabbi Dreyfus will bless those congregants with Wedding Anniversaries in the month of October.

Tomorrow morning’s Shabbat service, conducted by Rabbi Dreyfus will begin at 10:00 am.

The torah reading will be that for Chol HaMoed Sukkot, Exodus 33:12-34:35 and Numbers 29:12-16.

The Haftarah is Ezekiel 38:18-39:16

Over the next three weeks B’nai Yehuda Beth Sholom, Congregation Am Echad, Temple Anshe Sholom and the Jewish Healing Network of Chicago. will present  a program designed to help you feel more comfortable and knowledgeable when visiting people who are sick.  Topics include “do’s and don’ts” of visiting, emotional support, Jewish resources, and confidentiality.

The program will be be presented on  Sundays: October 26, November 2 and 9, from 10:00 to 11:30  a.m, at Temple Anshe Sholom.  The program will be led by Tracey Lipsig Kite, LCSW, JHNC Director and Rabbi Dr. Joseph S. Ozarowski, JHNC Chaplain

The program is funded by a grant from the JUF of Metropolitan Chicago.  There is a $5.00 book fee. Register at your Temple or contact Tracey Lipsig Kite at 847-568-5216 or JHNC@jcfs.org

This year’s conclusion of Sukkot, including Simchat Torah, Shemini Atzeret and Yizkor will be celebrated at a combined service at Temple Anshe Sholom beginning at 10:00 am on October 21.  A kiddush lunch will be served following services.

Our honorees this year as Chatan Torah and Kallat Bereishit are Jerry and Penny Shnay.  Come celebrate the completion of the cycle of Torah readings, and help us start over again.  Everyone can dance with the Torah!  This is a celebration for all ages.

Life Source Blood Drive – Sunday, October 19, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the BYBS Social Hall.
