The Parsha ia Lech L’cha Genesis 12:1?17:27. G-d tells Abram to leave the land where he has been living, and take his family, including Sarai, his wife, to the land that G-d will show him. G-d promises Abram that if he does the things G-d asks of him, he will give Abram’s descendants the land, and make Abram the father of a great nation. They go. Abram and Sarai then go off teo Egypt, because of the famine where G-d has sent them. They come back to the land, and even though Sarai is of a very advanced age, three guests fortell that She will bear a son. Subsequently, Isaac is born. G-d renews the covenant with Abram, who is renamed Abraham, Sarai becomes Sarah.
The Haftarah is Isaiah 40:27–41:16.
