The future is now! You are invited to shape the future and become a stakeholder in the emerging vision for BYBS. The holiday of Selichot seems especially suited for involving our membership in the future-planning process. The High Holy Days link us to our past, present and future and are a natural time for reflection. Selichot begins this period of contemplation. Let’s sit down together and talk over dinner about where we are today and bring our focus toward where we want to go and what we can become.  We want to include what has stirred us in the past, because for many of us, this is what keeps us connected to the Jewish community and drives our spiritual growth. What opportunities lay ahead? What challenges does the temple face? How can I help strengthen the congregation? You might even find the answer to the question, ?How can BYBS strengthen me?? The details on the entire evening are in the flyer in this bulletin. Send it to the office today.

We have a lot to look forward to this coming year. The introduction of Miskan T’filah will bring us together in worship.  The ?regional luminaries? Rabbi Wolkow has invited to our congregation will bring honor and recognition to Rabbi Dreyfus and BYBS. The school board and principal planned thoughtfully over the summer to ensure a smooth-running and effective educational program. I love the bulletin submissions we have received from our young congregants. Look for regular features about our members.

Of course fundraising efforts are always a given. Save the evening of May 31 for a fundraising event similar to our ?Connect With BYBS Reunion? two years ago. We will plan social events in fall and winter to bring us together for fun, friendship and fundraising.  You will hear from me soon about our annual High Holiday Appeal. Thank you for the prompt dues and school payments you have sent in.

I want to comment on the enthusiasm and strength of the newly installed board. Energy abounds among this group of leaders. Under their direction, you will see the theme of the congregation as a tapestry emerges. They recognize that together we make up a rich and varied picture and hope that every member will find a meaningful place in our intricately woven picture. As we did last year, board members will call you wishing you a Shanah Tovah.

I extend a warm invitation to my home for the open house on the second day of Rosh Hashanah and wish you happy, healthy and sweet New Year.
