This evening, BYBS will present a Simchat Shabbat service conducted by Rabbi Dreyfus  beginning at 6:15 pm, in the Garfein Wing. (If the weather is nice, we may go out to Dietch Prayer Circle for outdoor services. )

Tomorrow morning’s Shabbat Service, conducted by Rabbi Dreyfus, will begin at 10:00 am.  Barry Bayer will be the Cantorial Soloist.

The Parsha is Korach, Numbers 16:1?18:32.  Korach, Dathan and Abirum, and 250 of their backers demanded a showdown with Moses.  They were tired of taking instructions from Moses, claiming that all of the congregation was Holy, and asking why Moses pretended to be a big shot.  Moses proposed a contest with the rebels, and the next day the rebels and their leaders assembled at the entrance to the tent of meeting.  Upon G-d’s instructions, Moses warned the other Jews to stay away from the rebels and, as predicted by Moses, the earth opened swallowing the rebels and all of their possessions.  Rebellion over.

The rest of the Parsha deals with responsibilities and duties (and benefits) of the Kohanim (the Priests) and the Levites, redemption of first born male humans, sacrifies, blood fat, and similar important items.

The Haftarah is I Samuel 11:14?12:22
