We’re past the deadline, now, but I think I’ll post Rabbi Dreyfus’s excitement about this Friday Night’s Community Services and BarBeCue. Maybe you can still reserve a plate, and you can always come to services and post-services doings, anyhow. Or as Rabbi Dreyfus tells it:
The 3rd Annual SYNA-J - a community shabbat at the JCC in Flossmoor. All the information is in the August bulletin. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. with “Happy Hour” including Israeli dancing led by Karen Ness, and swimming, baseball and playgrounds open to all (children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult in the pool). At 6:00 p.m. we will enjoy a kosher BBQ dinner (hot dogs, chicken breasts and veggie burgers), and the outdoor community shabbat service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Our own “Klezmedics” will play during the service, with special teen performers Josh Cahan, Shira Gottlieb and Matt Lipman. The Oneg Shabbat begins around 8:00 p.m. with Basketball and Swimming for tweens and teens, supervised activities for younger children (by prior reservation!), a book discussion of “The Plot Against America” by Philip Roth led by Dalia Podwol and Nancy Burrows, and of course, singing with Cantor Lisa Doob.
The fee for the entire evening is $7 per person, and the deadline for reservations is Friday, August 17. Send a check payable to “CJC” to the temple office or to the JCC. There are flyers at the temple or in the bulletin. This should be another lovely community shabbat, and we hope to see you there.
