Friday evening, August 24 will be our third annual SYNA-J Shabbat experience. Sponsored by the Cooperative Jewish Council, all the congregations and organizations of the south suburban Jewish community will gather for a barbecue supper, outdoor shabbat service, and a variety of activities for all ages including swimming, basketball, a book discussion, singing, and dancing.

There will be some new features this year, so don’t even think “been there, done that.”

The Book-of-the-Summer (read it and then participate in the discussion) is: The Plot Against America by Philip Roth. It is a fascinating novel which imagines what life would be like if the Nazi-sympathizing Charles Lindbergh had been elected president of the United States. It’s a great read, and should make for an interesting discussion. Buy it now on Amazon.com

We will, of course, have information as we get closer, but read the book and be sure to save the date and spend the evening with your Jewish community.  FRIDAY, AUGUST 24
