Tomorrow morning’s Shabbat Service, conducted by Rabbi Dreyfus, will begin at 10:00 am. Barry Bayer will be the Cantorial Soloist.
The Parsha is Naso, Numbers 4:21 - 7:89, a section with a number of topics. The first deals with the duties of the descendants of Gershon and the Kohatites and some of the other Levites. Next we move to cleanliness and uncleanliness — both physical (lepers and others) and spiritual (dealing with the problems of an unfaithful married woman, or a married woman accused of unfaithfulness her husband. (The latter must undergo a test involving drinking of bitter water and so forth. If she survives the effects of this, then she is proved innocent.) Then the vows of the Nazerites and the duties assumed by them. Chapter 6 concludes with instructions to Aaron and his sons of the words to use in blessing the Israelites:
The LORD bless you and keep you!
The LORD let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you!
The LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace!
Finally, the very long Chapter 7 — 89 verses — discussing, in detail, the offerings brought by the princes of the Children of Israel.
