This evening’s Community Erev Shabbat service will be held at Temple Anshe Sholom in Olympia Fields. There will be no service in Homewood this evening. Our Adult Choir will be joining with the Temple Anshe Sholom Choir and Cantor Doob to provide the evening’s music.

Tomorrow morning’s Shabbat Service, in our building and conducted by the women of the temple Sisterhood, will begin at 10:00 AM. All congregants are invited to a luncheon after the service, and a session of torah study.

The Parasha is Chayei Sarah , Genesis 23:1?25:18. Sarah, at the age of 127 years, dies in Hebron. Abraham mourns for her, then purchases land in the field of Machpelah, with a cave in which she could be buried. Abraham becomes concerned about a wife for Isaac, and sends his most trusted servant to find a wife for Isaac, among his relatives in the land from which Abraham, at G-d’s command, had moved. Abraham is very concerned that Isaac not return to that old country. He goes on his trip, finds Rebekkah at the well, and Rebekkah is willing to go to where Isaac has made his life, without any question about leaving her youthful home. They return back to Isaac, who marries here. Abraham then marries Keturah, and has six additional children. Abraham dies at the age of 175, and the progeny of Abraham and Keturah and Abraham’s descents through Ishmael are identified. Ishmael dies at 137 years of age.

Should make for some interesting discussions at the torah study session.
