The Parasha, is Lech Lecha, Genesis 12:1 - 17:27. The Almighty tells the 75 year old Abram to take his family and to leave the land of his birth, to a new land. G-d promises that he will make Abram a great nation, and that all of the communities of the earth shall find blessings in Abram and his offspring. G-d promises Abram that this new land will belong to his descendants, Abram wanders around to Egypt, to Sodom, to other lands, and at 99 has a son by his concubine (or was she a wife) Hagar, who Sarai forces out of Abram’s family. The G-d promises Abram — whose name is changed to Abraham — a son by Sarai — whose name is changed to Sarah — and, as a part of the deal of making Abraham’s progeny a great nation, commands circucission of all males. Abraham’s son by Haggar, Ishmael, and Abraham, and all the other males in the camp are circumcised, as is Isaac when he is born.
One other thing: Rabbi Dreyfus is in Haifa; many of the congregations leaders (including regular service goers) are in Milwaukee for a convention. You presence at our services is always important, but even more important this weekend.
