Tonight’s Family Erev Shabbat Service will begin at 7:30 PM, and be conducted by Rabbi Dreyfus. Nancy Friedman and the Children’s Choir will provide music for the service
Tomorrow’s Shabbat service will begin at 10:00 AM. Carole Fefferman will be the Cantorial Soloist. The Parasha is the double portion Nitzavim / Vayeilech, Deueronomy 29:9 - 31:30. We begin with the end of the convenant that Moses brokers with G-d, and instructions to keep it, lest G-d lay the land devistation upon which they are about to enter. Good things will happen, of course, if the covenant is kept. G-d offers the choice — the blessing or the curse. And recommends that the Jews choose life. Finally, Moses tells his people that he is 120 years old, and will not be going with them into the land. He charges Josehu ben Nun to be strong and of good courage and tells him what he must do. He completes writing the words of the law in a book, then instructs the Levites to place the book into the Ark of the Covenant and composes a song which he teaches to the Jews (and which we will read next week.)
Tomorrow evening, of course is Slichot.
