This evening’s Erev Shabbat Service will be held at 7:15 at the Anita J. Stone Jewish Community Center in Flossmoor, as a part of the community Syna-J Celebration. Services will not be held at B’nai Yehuda Beth Sholom this evening.
Tomorrow Morning’s Shabbat Service will be conducted by Rabbi Dreyfus and will begin, in the main sanctuary, at 10:00 AM. At the service there will be an aufruf (pre-nuptial blessing) for Tami Schwarz, daughter of Barb & Gary Schwarz, and her fiance, Josh Mizrachi.
The parasha is Shoftim, Deuteronomy, 16:18 - 21:9. The section begins with the appointment of judges and officers, who are instructed, among other things, to not take bribes. More rules are set forth, from the proper penalty for an eye, to sanctuary cities for men perhaps guilty of taking a life by accident, to the rights and obligations of the Levites, and so forth.
