Report On The Taste

The Taste of BYBS 2006 is over and was a huge financial success, as we raised more than $4000. It was a huge social success as the more than 100 seats that had been set up were overflowing a good deal of the time. It was a huge culinary success, as our members are excellent cooks. It was a huge involvement success as we more than 50 of our members pitched in to help. And it was a lot of fun. Or at least I had a lot of fun.

The menu included Hummus, meatballs, veggie pizza, salads, challah, vegetables, chicken (2 kinds), brisket, pasta, chili and heavenly desserts.

Eighteen “Angels” — Trudi Altman, Ida and Mike Anger, Joan Barr, Ruth Broche, Nancy and Larry Burrows, Gayla and Joel Cahan, Niki and Brian Cummings, Ellen and Jim Dreyfus, Carole Fefferman, Carol and Jack Gelman, Sue and Robert Held, Lauren and Kern, Judy and Carl Levy, Beth and Jeremy Marks, Jeanne Pokorny, Carrie and Jerry Tenny, Deborah Turner-Blum, Lee and Sol Yates — sponsored the event, paying all of our costs in advance.

The Klezmedics klezmer band and the BYBS Players provided entertainment.

Cooks and servers included Ida Anger, Joel Cahan, Gayla Cahan, Nancy Buchko, Mona Engleberg, Jerry Shnay, Penny Shnay, Ruth Friedman, Dorothea Wolf, Barbara Schwarz, Stan Dreyfuss, Ellen Crenin, Vivian Stelzer, Susan Bayer, Bill Lazarus, Lynn Lazarus, Jerry Levine, Judy Levy, Carolyn Zakem, John Kern, Lauren Kern, Gayle Weil, Barbara Blumstein, Jeanne Pokorny, Nancy Burrows, Dale Robinson, Celia-Ann Toll, David Gottlieb, Doug Koltin, Eila Koltun, Larry Mankin, Susan Weinrebe, Ruth Ratowitz, Beth Marks, Niki Cummings, Libby Morse, Trudi Altman, Gertrude Spangler, Ellen Dreyfus, and Lee Yates.

Many other helpers organized the kitchen, kept the platters full and then helped clean up. The door and tickets were managed by Ruth Ratowitz and Judy Lohr. Chaffing dishes were provided by Jay Heiferman and AAA Rentals, and picked up and dropped off by Gary Schwarz. Goldie Mankin typed up the recipes and program. Ellen Kahn handled publicity and compiled the recipes into a packet which we could then sell. Ruth Friedman handled the calligraphy. The committee contacted cooks and bakers and generally helped out wherever needed. It took a lot of members doing something to create an event that was enjoyed by all. . If I forgot someone, I apologize, but there were so many of you working hard.
