Tomorrow’s Shabbat Service will begin at 10:00 AM and will be conducted by Rabbi Dreyfus. Alexander Sandack will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah.

The Parasha is the double section ofBehar-Bechukotai - Leviticus 25:1 - 27:34 the last chapters of the book of Leviticus. Chapter 25 reminds us to observe the Sabbath, every 7th day for people and every 7th year for the land. The 50th year — the year after the end of the sequence of seven ’sabbatical’ years — is a Jubilee and deals with redemption of debt, and freedom for (Jewish) servants (slaves?) . In Chapter 26, G-d promises great rewards for following G-d’s commandments, and punishments for violating them. The last chapter of Leviticus sets forth a schedule of taxation (or offerings to the Cohanim) according to the age and gender of each person and their major possessions. Next week we begin the book of Numbers.
